In August 2024, I had the exciting opportunity to shadow the stage management team for Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of “A Streetcar Named Desire“. I worked alongside the stage manager near the conclusion of the season, and I was fortunate to be present for the first week of rehearsals. It was exhilarating to reconnect with a company whose creative process I have admired, witnessing their ideas come to life.
During the performance, I observed the stage manager call the show and watched the assistant stage manager (ASM) and deputy stage manager (DSM) pre-set props during intermission. I was also on comms throughout the show, which I thoroughly enjoyed as it allowed me to actively participate in the collaborative and communicative aspects of stage management.
